The designated plot selected by the Laotongzhi in 2024 is Mannuo - Shuijingmian, located in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province, at longitude 100°25'0" and latitude 22°24'33", with an altitude of approximately 1280 meters.
High Soil Moisture, Unique Flavor
The sweet spring water nourishes the tea trees, giving the tea its unique flavor. The high soil moisture in Mannuo Shuijingmian provides excellent growing conditions for the tea trees, allowing the ancient trees to thrive healthily and robustly.
Enjoying Good Tea with the Laotongzhi
Compared to other tea mountains in Menghai, Mannuo has a relatively low altitude and is considered one of the earliest mountains in Menghai where ancient tree tea can be harvested. To this day, the remaining 2,000 acres of ancient tea gardens in Mannuo carry a history and culture spanning thousands of years.
Using Traditional Methods for Processing
About 1,000 years ago, the ancestors of the Buliang people migrated to Mannuo Village and began planting tea trees. Since then, the local Buliang people have consistently adhered to traditional methods (top leaf retention, side pruning, and careful weeding) to nurture the tea trees. After harvesting fresh leaves, they use traditional techniques to pan-fry and roll the leaves, ensuring that each tea leaf retains its natural and pure quality.
The name Mannuo Shuijingmian comes from a centuries-old ancient well next to the tea garden. The well's sweet and clear water, combined with the red soil, nourishes this tea garden, allowing the tea trees to grow very healthily, with leaves as soft as silk.
This unique environmental condition gives Mannuo Shuijingmian tea its distinctive aroma and flavor, characterized by a delicate texture and rich wild orchid fragrance, earning it the title of 'the most fragrant tea in Menghai.'
